Why insure?

True price comparisons

A number of LAs have told us that the cost of the insurance scheme is not materially different from the current replacement cost they bear for loss or damage in the school environment. However, this comparison is not accurate. The insurance solution includes the huge benefit to the child of comprehensive social and domestic use of their RAS.

Existing school insurances

Many schools have told us their existing insurances will cover RAS, but incur high policy excess charges making this very expensive in practice. We would urge schools to check their policies very carefully before relying on this cover.

Existing Home Insurance Policies

A number of parents have told us that they have investigated using existing Home Insurance Policies to cover RAS. In practice this has been impossible due to the general need for ‘proof of ownership’ of insured items, and high excess charges on high value items.
