Pricing

A key design feature of the Radio Aid System Insurance Policy was to have a single price for any make/model/age of equipment, and this remains today.

The technology of radio aid systems has evolved over time and therefore a number of different systems exist in current use.

A radio aid system comprises 3 elements, a transmitter and 2 receivers.

Historically a radio aid receiver was a hardware device either fitted externally to a hearing aid, a Roger X, or integrated within the hearing aid hardware.

The pricing was broadly £500 per component i.e. £500 per transmitter and £500 per receiver, £1500 total.

Roger Direct was then introduced whereby the receiver functionality was integrated within the hearing aid itself, but not enabled. The purchase of a Roger X with a software key was then required to enable the functionality of each receiver. The price of the Roger X with a software key was the same at £500, so the total price of the radio aid system also remained the same at £1500 total.

In late 2024 Phonak changed its pricing strategy with the announcement of the Roger Touchscreen Mic 3. This provides additional functionality over the original, together with the ability to download unlimited Roger Direct receivers to compatible hearing aids. The price was however increased to broadly £1500, so the total cost of a radio aid system remained the same at £1500.

All the different radio aid system configurations described above will exist in the education community for some time to come. We will therefore continue to maintain the principle of £125 policy premium per radio aid system regardless of the configuration, the overall cost of each remaining constant over time at £1500.
